Exactly.
Plus the fact that using a gun is in many ways easier because it's much more abstract than using a blade or even clubbing someone..You stand anywhere and fire and you don't have to be near the person, there is no real connection in any intimate sense..you don't even have to look at em..it's a disconnect that makes it all the more appealing and efficient.
