Success! Windows 10 via Boot Camp on a Mac Pro 5,1
#1
Unfortunately, I don't know the exact sequence of events that allowed it. I tried a bunch of things. I already had Windows 10 installed on its own drive from a Hac. The OS X bootloader was on another drive, so this drive was just straight Windows. And it was installed with the drive configured as AHCI.

The basics are this:

1. If you have Boot Camp Assistant v 6.1+ you can use that. (Skip to step 2) Otherwise, you'll need to use a Mac that does have that.
- Use it to Download Windows Support Software on to a USB drive. After this, skip to Windows Apps
2. Go to /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents (you'll have to use Show Package Contents). And open Info.plist (you'll need to use a text editor like Text Wrangler that will allow you to escalate your permissions to edit a file (ie type in your admin password.)
3. There's a section in that file called SupporedNonWin10Models. Remove MacPro5,1 from there.
4. Under PreUSBBootSupportedModels add MacPro5,1
5. Now launch the app and Download Windows Support Software on to a USB drive.

Windows Apps
Boot into Windows (you can use Startup Disk to get you there). Once booted, open up the USB drive. setup.exe will tell you that your model is not supported. However, you can go to Drivers/Apple and install what you need to. I installed BootCamp.msi.

However, the Boot Camp Control Panel still wouldn't show. I tried other apps, restarting... but what finally seemed to fix it was booting into OS X then back to Windows. Then the control panel showed up. Now everything seems to be working fine. I also ran a Geekbench test and the results were very similar to what I get from the Mac side.
