Other than the retina screen I'm not sure I can justify moving from a mid 2011 27" iMac. It has a 3.1ghz i7 Quad core, 2GB graphics card, 32GB of ram, room for a 6TB HD as well as a 1TB SSD, and still has an optical drive. No USB3, but that can be rectified with a Thunderbolt dock.
I would probably say the same thing -- except I have a 2010 2.93 i7. 1 GB 5750, slower SATA I and no T-bolt. I dont care about USB 3 either, but I would like 3 screens. Currently running a small screen via USB 2 to DVI adapter and it aint that great.
If I had a 2011, I could run those extra screens easier.
I could shop around... i just looked on CL and theres a 2011 3.4 i7 but the 1 GB 6970 for $800 about 40 mintues away. 16 GB of ram, prob all 4 slots full. So figure a little more $$ for ram.
Theres also a 2012 3.2 i5 with a cracked screen for $800, but almost same geekbench numbers at the 2011 i7. But 32 GB of ram, 3TB Fusion and 2 GB GtX680. New screen is $400+
The only thing to watch out for on the 2011s is there is a recall on the Graphics cards for the 1GB and 2GB versions. So make sure whatever one you buy either had the recall done or is still covered.
Which recall is that? It is not listed among the repair extension programs on the Apple Support site.
