Long Read: The Secret History of Tiger Woods
#2
Thanks for posting this. You aren't kidding about it being a long read, I've only finished Act I before finding the need to take a break. Act I seems to be a sort of prologue, suggesting Tiger had a social exclusivity to his dad's special operations circle of friends, and that would influence him later to ask "what if" questions (the articke saying Tiger considered a special ops military career as the other path his life could have chosen instead of golf). His father's death seemed to precipitate this search. His fame as a golfer allowed him inroads to getting glimpses of what that life is like by getting VIP access to see how the military trainings (easy enough since besides drinking, golf is the military's favorite recreational activity). Act I finished with suggesting this was the beginning of the end....the affairs, the medical issues, and the ultimate breakdown of his golf game. It's all a shame really. He could've been the greatest (by an order of magnitude) in the game. In some ways he still is (in my opinion), for the brief time he shined, he shined like no other, burning fast like a large bright young star on its way to supernova.
