Anything in the East End will meet your needs. The hotels on Bigelow are right in the middle of the Pitt area, and a few blocks from CMU. Walking distance from Carnegie Museum and Phipps.
A bit cheaper is down at the Waterfront (several to choose from), and convenient to shopping and restaurants and free parking.
If you want an interesting experience, this B&B is run by a friend of mine.

He's restoring an 1860s mansion. Gorgeous woodwork. Not the nicest neighborhood (it's gone downhill in the past 150 years), but a building you'll never forget.
