I've fixed various bits and pieces in a few recliners over the years, including the infamous "You set my chair on fire dammit !" incident where I had to weld up a broken bracket and sort of forgot to have a hose handy. Whoops.
You can fix them. They're just furniture and mechanisms. Is it worth it ? Probably not.
Springs can't be 'repaired'. Just replaced. Back pain from a recliner ? Probably a worn spring. You can put a lumbar support pillow in there instead.
