Was it a worksheet or problem from the book?
Very few teachers write their own problems any more for a number of reasons (like avoiding charges that the work is not properly related to the state testing standards). That is especially true of math.
I'll bet it was a book provided problem or worksheet. I'll also wager that the book is a Pearson publication. That company is well known for mistakes in their class materials (yet Pearson is the leading standardized state test provider in the nation)
