Imagine you've had this very good friend for over 30 years - a really good person that has done many wonderful things and he tells this story of working under extreme conditions that you later find out is a complete fabrication. I would really be wondering what else has been said in the past that was also fabricated.
This issue has been fully researched - the story she told was pure BS. If she had said, 'yeah, we landed in Baghdad and it was a real shittstorm' and then moved on to another subject - yeah, I'd call that a throwaway line and not consider it. But it was a very detailed story she told and it was all fabricated. Why would an exceptionally honest person make up a detailed lie for no reason? Maybe she's not exceptionally honest - it seems to me to be a reasonable conclusion.
