Not me, my neighbor.
We share a patio but we have a wooden fence between us, for some sort of privacy. I was cleaning yesterday, he was outside fixing his water spigot. I should mention he is a tenant, why he didn't call the landlord I do not know. So my wife saw him upset, swearing in his native language around 2 PM. I didn't notice. I heard some water running later in the afternoon, but I did not look to see what was going on, I assumed they were washing their patio. Water sound stopped, I finished grilling and had dinner. Around 8:30 PM he rings the bell to ask if I know how to shut the water to the outside spigot. Our units are identical, except they are symmetric in respect to each other. I showed him where the main shutoff valve for the unit is, he knew that, but he said he burst the outside pipe and had to shut off the water to the entire unit, and now he was looking into whether there is a second valve that he can shut off the water to the outside spigot but restore the water to the rest of the unit. No such thing. He said he was waiting for Doctor Rooter to come since 2 PM.
Anyway, I told him if he needs some water or use a restroom to come to us. No. he said the plumber should be there at 9 PM.
An hour later he shows up with a 5 Gallon bottle to get some water form my outside spigot (the one in the front). I went and got him a hose to make things easier. he made several round trips to fill the toilet tanks. eventually things were quiet, but at 12 PM when I went to sleep I checked outside and there was no sign of any plumber.
This morning at 8:30 AM as we were drinking coffee I told my wife: "I wonder if he shut off the water heater or if he drained it empty and damaged it". So about 5 minutes later he rings the bell again, he said that he was returning the hose, which he had to take at 3 AM. He said the water boiled started leaking from the over-pressure safety valve at 3 AM and luckily he was up and came downstairs to check things and noticed water leaking from the ceiling. He found the water leaking from the water heater, and used the hose to drain the water into that 5 gallon bottle. He was able to shut off the power at 3 AM.
today at 10 AM the plumber finally came, around 12 he left. he came back at 1 PM, this time he worked only inside until 3 PM. I assume he worked on the water heater the second time. probably he had to run to some store to get parts.
The entire adventure will probably cost him a lot of money. 5 hours of plumber's time, plus parts for the spigot, water heater, and who know what else. he probably needs to deal with the water on the ceiling, mold, who know what else, paint, etc.
A tenant like this can ruin your house.
