Funny, I'm in almost the exact situation... 2007 (ish?) iMac 24" seized up early last week... The drive is dead as a doornail.
Got a clone backup and a Time Machine backup (two partitions of a single drive)...
First thing I did was boot from the clone, and CLONE the clone to another drive. I don't wanna get caught having everything on ONE drive while the computer is dead!
Now that that's accomplished, I'm contemplating how old/expensive an iMac I want to replace it. I really don't want to put a lot of effort into an iMac that can only take 6Gb RAM...
