Is your NYC company national ? They can 'transfer' your coverage, and will happily quote you auto insurance. And you'll be really happy at the rate reduction. Really happy. Just like the lower potential rent is probably confusing you too.
It is a good idea to have auto insurance cued up when you go shopping for cars. The rate will adjust based on what car you get, but since you're going for small SUV's your rates will not get too weird.
And... are you getting the car before your move, or after ? Road trip with the baby ! (15 hour drive, plan on breaking it into 2 days to make it restful..)
