I guess the question is whether you have the self discipline to put things where they belong in the first place so you can easily find them. I've been pretty bad about this myself, especially with PDFs. I really need to make sense of the staggering number of PDFs I've collected.
There's a lot of discussion on the interwebs about these type of apps. People who used to like them have decided they're archaic now. Others still like them. YMMV.
I think the upside to these kind of apps is that you can assign more than one keyword to each file, making them more "findable".
