I hear ya, but really, give it a try. USB 2 sticks are silly slow.

In my days pre USB 3, I would just use a portable HDD. very fast.

But yes, this could be a limitation of your router or wifi on the mac or imac, without knowing their specs, hard to put a pin in it.
