My Norelco's exchangeable head seems to be at least as good as any standalone I've ever tried. It's cutting, not pulling -- no pain. The tip is similar to that on Drew's manual trimmer.
I have two Norelco beard trimmers (both from Costco, about a decade apart) that have nose/ear hair trimmers, and neither works as well as a good standalone model. The older one's battery is just about kaput... full charge barely lasts a complete beard trimming. Any pulling or other injury DQ's a trimmer automatically. An ideal nose/ear hair trimmer cuts close enough to not leave mangy stubble. In today's world, the search is for which trimmer painlessly leaves the shortest stubble. I also have a Wahl Li-Ion that is louder and seems more powerful than the others, and it trims the beard closer w/ the naked blade, but I like the Norelco's better for shaping w/ their attachments. The Wahl's big, naked blade trims ear hair better than its ear/nose attachment.
