Switching from AT&T post-paid plan to pre-paid: Is it possible, any gotchas?

OK, here's a bit of weirdness. This iPhone SE is strictly for backup purposes, since I and my kids all have iPhones and I always like to have a spare. The morning, my 6 would only connect via wireless, not via AT&T. I checked my account on the AT&T page and saw that my 6 was suspended. I got on chat with them and they said my 6 was suspended because it was reported stolen. Took a few minutes but they took the suspension off and all is well.

Did I accidentally click something which caused it to be reported or was there some glitch with placing the SIM in the SE? Who knows, but just be aware if something like this happens.
