It will take a generation of stability and truth to get back to how it was when Kennedy took office. Foreign leaders and diplomats believed what Kennedy said because of the previous history.

Nope! Nope, nope, nope.
Maybe a tiny bit for home perception of the office, but that is it. The Reagan admin colluded with Iran to sell them weapons and parts to maintain them, and made deals with drug lords and supported mass murder by the Contras. The sales to Iran was against the U.S. lead embargo. It was one of the biggest foreign policy embarrassments since WWII.
