Wild boar are slowly spreading across the US. They do tremendous amounts of damage and they are dangerous. Many states are starting to legalize hunting them with air rifles because airguns have a shorter range than firearms but are effective against wild boar at shorter ranges and they’re quieter. Wild boar are smart and adaptable and capable of living in close proximity to humans without the humans even knowing that they’re there. That means that hunting them often requires being in very close proximity to human habitations and suburban areas. Boar reproduce like rats. To even control their populations you must cull about 80% of the sounder just keep population growth level. A sow can have 12 piglets in a litter and they can reproduce in as little as 4 months. It isn’t so much hunting as it is depredation. Texas is being hit particularly hard.
