CJ, you can certainly use any other stylus that you like or already have. The Pencil is capable of more, though, and has the most natural feel; it even looks like a standard pencil. Of course, it all depends on what you want to do on the iPad. Alas, I don't have a Pencil, but my iPad is too old to use it. My son has an iPad Pro, though, and loves the Pencil. He has painted and sketched with various other styluses (stylii?), but says the Pencil is much better and more precise. He can even use the side of the tip for shading, just like a "real" pencil. I don't know of any other stylus that can do that. And yes, I want to upgrade!
