Edit: I just bought it and a $45 TB3 to TB2 adapter to connect to our existing TB2 hub. I wonder why Apple includes a USB to Lightning cable with new iMacs...

USB to lightning is to charge any wireless peripherals like the mouse and keyboard/trackpad.
