Also unions in general are very healthy in my state and they represent workers, not the companies or organizations that employ them (as is their mission). We have the third highest rate of union membership in the country, with close to 20% of the workforce in unions. That means workers in the state are earning, on average, 25% higher wages than nonunion workers in the same jobs.
And as far as I can tell businesses in Washington are doing quite well, thank you, and we are considered one of the friendliest states for business and have one of the healthiest economies among all the states.
That is what these unions are paid for.
