A lot of the wear and tear on an iPhone and iPad come from the insertion and removal of the Lightning cable. I like wireless charging so much that I added $13 Qi modules between my iPad and its protective case, plugged into the Lightning port (of my last iPad) and the USB C port (of my current iPad) - and never plug them into a cable.
The new iPad is a bit topheavy resting in the stand-up cradle, but it’s supported by a tall pad of paper and works great. Charging is a bit slower than a cable would provide but it’s fast enough.
