I finally ripped the screen protector out and got a plastic adhesive screen protector, then moved to glass. This was when I got the defender for the iPhone 4. After that I moved to the KX case.
Filliam,
The bad may be bad but, in reality, I don't think it really matters. the sheer convenience of wireless charging makes it a non-issue.
FWIW, the reason I haven't bought one of the many wireless charging cases for my 6S is that none are comparable to the Otterbox Defender. Rugged, yes, built-in screen protector, no. I could go with a separate screen protector but, given the choice, I'd rather have it built into the case.

I work outside on the weekends (yard work) and get sand / dirt on my phone. Its been in a KX case from our sponsor, just like the previous two iPhones I’ve had. In my opinion, one of the best cases on the market. It’s the only case I buy now, also to add bulk to the phone just like the defender. The only other problem I’ve had with the defender is the hard plastic breaking from drops. Not an issue with KX.
My FIL is a mason and does less work now that he’s older, but he does get his hands dirty. He has an otter box defender screenless for his XR. . I added a glass one for him. I still don’t like the polycarbonate that has a potential to break.
We all have our favorite case, my wife’s is the Loopy Max. It used to be the white marble until the case started to discolor, she got a replacement of the Carbon Black (looks like carbon fiber) and a glass screen protector of course.
Anyways, have you tried a wireless lightning charging Qi adapter? I always wanted to get an extended battery pack case, but the poor protection the cases provided only made me want to get a usb battery pack.
