I used to get extremely nauseous and sometimes pass out at even the thought of hypodermic needles and it was a major ordeal to get a shot or blood test. However, a few years ago I had a DVT and pulmonary embolism (blood clot in a leg vein that had a significant chance of killing me by clogging my pulmonary artery) and was suddenly thrown into a routine of daily blood tests combined with daily painful shots in my stomach which continued for weeks (the blood tests continued for many months though at reduced frequency). That little experience completely erased my phobia of needles. These days I don't even flinch when getting a jab.
