Biking very early this morning and then work on the deck. Many years ago I over-used a pressure washer on the deck and messed up the boards. When our daughter got married 8 years ago it looked crummy so I flipped the boards to the nice side. But, that meant they had light and dark areas. It didn't look good and so, rather than just letting it age to a consistent color, with full knowledge of the "it will never end" issue, I stained the deck with a semi-transparent stain. Now that has come home to roosts and there are peeling areas. I had touched it up about 4 years ago but it's gotten bad again. So, yesterday I took the railing apart so we could restain it without having to try to paint about the round metal balusters. Today I will put it back together and stain the top part of the rail after I screw it together. Then scrape the needed areas on the deck surface and stain half of the deck. Tomorrow I'll move the furniture to the just-stained area and scrape and restain the rest of the deck.
