I wish companies would pull down job descriptions when they're no longer available
#6
It's a fun game of roulette. There are reasons why HR Directors are portrayed by Catbert.

I had one call, asked if it was a good time to talk, and I stupidly said, "no." We were driving in a car and the kids were noisy. Altogether the wrong place to talk about yourself while being interviewed.

They never called back. I paid the extra on LinkedIn to track down the HR person or whomever oversaw the department to ask if they would please honor what they said they'd do and call me back. He said they would and they didn't. I really thought it would be a good fit, a shame.

Another time I made it though a few phone interviews and the time came for an in-person chat. I showed up but one of the 2 people did not, so the other humored me with a regular interview. I was to do a short presentation for them but that was scrapped. A few days later they re-scheduled the presentation as online instead.

That was a plus, as I had driven an hour the first time, bought a new suit and so on. So I'm all setup in front of the computer, join the meeting and turn on my webcam. Can't see anyone, and one person phoned in. Could they see me? I acted as if they could. The phone guy likely couldn't.

It must have not been impressive, or maybe it never mattered. They went with someone else without explaining why. <-- That's what makes it all a total waste of time, except for knowing you "tried."

In my current job I work with a person who got a job I applied for. Had similar good interviews but they went with the other person ... I got the next job that opened up shortly after that. The other person is in a different, higher-up role, and I know what she makes because they disclose that during the application/interview process.
