data breach at GiveSendGo "Christian" crowdfunding site reveals donors
#1
April 10, the breach is reported and a group shares info with journalists, who begin looking (and interviewing) donors. It's a motley collection of randomized paranoids mostly supporting Proud Boys, because the legit crowdfunding sites have booted those people.

GiveSendGo allows donors to remain anonymous but forgot a central tenet of security: Don't hold onto readable, personalized data.

If we pause right there, it's "interesting" that some employers have no problem with staffers using company time and resources to make hate-fueled donations other than to say it was a mistake.

***********

On the 16th it was then reported that the donors include law enforcement and other US officials. One donated to Kyle Rittenhouse:

The Guardian wrote:
One donation for $25, made on 3 September last year, was made anonymously, but associated with the official email address for Sgt William Kelly, who currently serves as the executive officer of internal affairs in the Norfolk police department in Virginia.

That donation also carried a comment, reading: “God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You’ve done nothing wrong.”

The comment continued: “Every rank and file police officer supports you. Don’t be discouraged by actions of the political class of law enforcement leadership.”

Same day (last Friday) the Virginian-Pilot asks why Norfolk police are supporting Kyle Rittenhouse.

"[William] Kelly did not respond to a message sent to his work email." Maybe that's because he only uses it for crowdfunding correspondence??

They did manage to get a quote from a "veteran" Norfolk officer (speaking on the record but anonymously due to dept. policy)

Virginian-Pilot wrote:
The officer said Kelly’s assertion that “every rank and file officer supports you” is just flat out wrong. “Many of us here are pissed off because he doesn’t speak for us and those views are certainly not mine. We are waiting to see how this is handled by the administration.”

The administration handled it 4 days later by reassigning Kelly, and then yesterday, firing him. Did I mention he lead their internal affairs unit?

There was been swift condemnation against Kelly from all but one group ... can you guess? Sure you can: The police union cried crocodile tears over the investigation being "hasty" and not "transparent."

Tell me this isn't systemic.
