Amazon has warehouses of stuff returned for all reasons, dubious and legit, and they paid full refunds and return shipping, too. Then there's the Karen who chews up and spits out the customer service desk at every brick and mortar store. That's what you get when you deal with people. It's not special to eBay.
I sell on eBay knowing there WILL come a day (and has, though minor so far) when someone takes unfair advantage of the return policy. But eBay is the place with the largest customer base for my niche, so I "make it up in volume."
