MicroSD adapters, low profile (or actual SD cards)
#2
kj,

I'm using one of these in a 2015 MBPr 13" with a 400GB microSD card. It works nicely in conjunction with its OWC Aura Pro X2 1TB internal SSD. However, I have heard adapters can cause sleep issues. I've yet to have any.

Storage-wise, if you want to replace the internal SSD, the OWC Aura Pro X2 is an option. You can also use a Sintech adapter and a standard NVME M.2 SSD. There are posts about the Sintech-stick combo in the forum. I did one job with that combo for a friend and she hasn't had any issues with her machine. Might need to be running High Sierra or Mojave for either upgrade. My machines are running Mojave. Same goes for my friend's machine.

Another caveat. I've heard Apple-related firmware updates require an Apple SSD be installed in the machine. I did all updates prior to upgrading my MBPr with the OWC aura. Did the same for the machine I upgraded for my friend.
