Sorry I am not familiar with Nest thermostat, I used Ecobee.
Is there a factory reset menu on the thermostats? I would try that and then try to start over.
Also, years ago I read that Nest had an internal lithium battery and that goes bad occasionally leaving the thermostat useless. This is a real problem for people with vacation homes that are unoccupied for long times. I chose Ecobee for that reason. No battery to go bad. I am not sure if newer models of Nest have this issue or not.
