Recanting is common enough that it's grouped as a symptom under "rape trauma syndrome."
This.
Recant does not mean 'it didn't happen', just as a verdict of 'Not Guilty' doesn't mean the defendant didn't commit the crime charged.
Just because someone claims they didn't commit any crime doesn't mean they're telling the truth.
While I always first lean to the 'innocent until proven guilty' belief, I know that victims of rape or any sexual assault are almost without exception cast as 'asking for it', 'lying' or are otherwise blamed.
There have been women who have falsified rape or sexual assault charges, but not so many that I'm not wary of a suspect's cries of 'I'm innocent/it was consensual/etc.
So may I hope the woman is lying.
I'm more comfortable with that then her telling the truth and not being believed.
