I was told by the head of the local volunteer TNR org here that she'd likely be unadoptable if she won't allow herself to be picked up. I think a big part of that is a local issue here -- we simply have so many strays/ferals and all the shelters are always full. So I was advised to keep her as a porch cat, as many here apparently do.
As for her being checked out by a vet, when I TNR'd her (with the volunteer org's help), they bring all the kitties to the vet for spay/neuter, but I presume it's only the most basic of checkups.
Porch kitty seems generally healthy, if somewhat skittish. She's definitely made my porch her territory... and as some of you here might know, I set up a fairly nice pair of shelters for her on my porch, so that she can sleep or hide in them if the weather's bad. The only thing I've noticed about her health-wise is a bit of hair loss in some spots, which the TNR person told me is likely due to a flea allergy, that she is constantly licking those areas.
I'm pretty sure her pickiness is indeed the food. I just tried putting out some treats, and sure enough, she gobbled those up. So this one brand is apparently not her thing.
