Can I connect my Logitech Z-5500 Speakers to M4 Mac mini?

Thanks for the responses. Yes I am choosing the output in sound preferences. It would show headphones with just the 3.5 adapter, and USB audio with the 3.5 to USB C adapter. But, again no sound from the speakers. The Midi stuff I mentioned was something I found online in my quest to troubleshoot. I guess since the 3.5 port on the M4 mini is no longer digital I will need to try a different adapter. Will this one in the link work, or can someone provide info on a reasonably inexpensive option that I can use. Oh, and yes I'm using optical toslink cable with 3.5 adapter on the 2012 mini.

That adapter should work. Seems like a small investment to keep your speakers working!
