I've noticed that too, it seems like you can control the sorting order in the column headings, and the default is "Last Post[asc]".   I haven't found a sorting order that matches the old forum, which was threads in order of creation.  Trying to sort by "Thread" seems to bring back a bunch of posts dated in 1970 to the top in either ascending or descending order.

I was thinking that once things calm down and everyone is accounted for, we should have a good group discussion thread where we share tips on how we've fine tuned the new forum to make it more like the old one, or share new discoveries that are welcome improvements.

Edit:  Found the solution, instead of messing with the sorting order in the column header, go down to the bottom of the displayed threads and there's a three pop-up menus and a "go" button.    Set them to "Sort by: Creation Time",  "Order: Descending", "From: The Beginning", and press "Go"

That works, but it doesn’t stay that way. You have to re-sort each time you view a thread, unless I am missing something.
