it's too bad that Zohran Mamdani has allegedly made anti-Israel remarks (so I've read, but not confirmed with my own eyes & ears) instead of anti-Neti remarks.
That might lose him the race.  There are a whole lotta Jews in NYC that know the difference.

This is his wiki entry on the topic of Israel and Palestine.   He's pretty clear on the subject.

"Mamdani supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. He has denounced Israel's actions during the Gaza war, calling them acts of genocide.[68]

Early in 2023, Mamdani introduced a bill called the "Not on our dime!: Ending New York Funding of Israeli Settler Violence Act", which would prohibit registered charities from donating to organizations that support illegal Israeli settlers.[69][33] On October 13, 2023, he was among several protesters arrested during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City, part of a series of protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.[70][71][72] In November 2023, Mamdani joined Cynthia Nixon in a five-day hunger strike outside Washington, D.C., in support of an immediate ceasefire and in opposition to President Biden's support of the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.[73][74][75] In 2024, he held an iftar for a ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan.[76]

In 2025, Mamdani declined to sign on to the annual New York Assembly resolution celebrating the anniversary of Israel's founding[77] because it contained the wording that Israel "continues to strive for peace with security and dignity for itself, its neighbors and throughout the world in order to fulfill the prophecy of becoming a light unto the nations", which Mamdani's spokesman said was "belied by the conduct of the right-wing government over the past 18 months".[77] His decision drew criticism from Assembly member Sam Berger, who also criticized Mamdani's condemnation of Israel during the Gaza war.[77] In response, Mamdani said he abhorred antisemitism and acknowledged Israel's claim of a right to exist,[68] saying that Israel has a right to exist as a state with equal rights for all its citizens.[78] Mamdani was criticized for not sponsoring the Assembly's annual resolution for Holocaust Remembrance Day between 2021 and 2025.[77][79] Leftist organization, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice defended Mamdani, saying "Anyone attempting to misrepresent [Mamdani] is blatantly using the horrors of the Holocaust as a political cudgel. Zohran knows that [being mayor] is about materially improving people's lives. He has a record to back that up, and a policy platform that demonstrates his ongoing commitment to serving all New Yorkers, including Jews".[79]

In June 2025, while campaigning for New York City mayor on the podcast The Bulwark, Mamdani was asked about the phrase "globalize the Intifada". He described it as a symbolic call for Palestinian human rights, not for violence or antisemitism, adding, "These words have different meanings for many different people... I've been clear that any incitement to violence is something that I'm in opposition to." He said the word "intifada" has been used by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Arabic translations referring to Jewish resistance during World War II.[80][81] Mamdani has also refused to condemn the phrase on multiple occasions.[82] The interview received condemnation from Jewish public figures, including Ted Deutch, Marc Schneier, Ammiel Hirsch, Dan Goldman and Jonathan Chait, who said "If Mr. Mamdani is unwilling to heed the request of major Jewish organizations to condemn this unquestionably antisemitic phrase, then he is unfit to lead a city with 1.3 million Jews—the largest Jewish population outside of Israel."[83][82][80][84] However one Jewish figure, fellow mayoral candidate and New York City Comptroller, Brad Lander, defended Mamdani saying, "I don't like the phrase... but I do believe he will protect Jewish New Yorkers and our rights."[85][83]
