Some christian men's groups are called accountability groups. They will confide some part of their life that they struggle with (such as money) and then if the members of the group see the person doing something stupid they can call him on it. I was part of a group like this years ago and it really helped one member.
There are also non-religious accountability groups. Some businessmen will be part of such a group.
What it really comes down to is that groups like this will meet and they can speak openly and get advice on matters without the usual social limitations. It is a very valuable thing.
