The high school athlete stud would also have to be a stud in the classroom. Stanford admissions does not cut athletes much slack at all. Some pretty good athletes have wanted to go to Stanford, but didn't have the grades or test scores to get through the door: Reggie Bush is probably the highest-profile example.
I'd think an athlete strictly interested in the coeds would pick U$C every time.
