order your yearly free credit report, or even better subscribe to one of those credit monitoring services. Check it often. Make all the necessary corrections (I still have to do that, some of the banks misspelt my name).
Close your unused accounts, if you are sure you will never use them again. For example, if you ever applied for a department store credit card because they had a $25 off that day, or 3 months free interest, but you have not used that card ever since and you don't shop at that store anymore, why not close it and make sure that wrote CLOSED AT CONSUMER'S REQUEST.
All in all you have some solid advice in that email.
