General PeeCee question: Getting data off the HD.

You could try to reinstall XP overtop of the corrupted one. Or you could boot from the restore CD and select "Repair Installation" or something like that. Should leave the data in place. Another option would be take out the drive, install it on one of these:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=USB+IDE+adapter&btnG=Search+Froogle
and attach it too another computer as an external USB drive. There are lots of ways to skin this cat.
