Dr Who: The Girl In The Fireplace
#6
Sophomoric drivel!

The stories are so absurdly written that I watch out of morbid fascination. In some ways it kind of reminds me of "Sky Captain…" that bland turkey from a few years ago.

I've watched and enjoyed this long on-going series since it first came to the US, but I have seen it lose its specialness along the way

At one time the SciFi channel was home to some impressive series, but now it suffers from being owned and run by "network bean counters."

I grew up as a child reading great SciFi authors like Heinlein, Asimov, Pohl and Sturgeon in the the late '40s but, sadly, I cannot often find anything on TV or in the movies that comes even close to the inspired work that drew me to the genre.

Farscape was probably the closest thing to "real" science fiction that we've gotten from the SciFi channel for a long time and I'm not encouraged to expect any improvement.

"Stargate" was a favorite of mine for a long time, but it too has become dull. Its sense of humor was a key ingredient that made it enjoyable, but that kind of shading has been lost now, as well.

As I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
