That's true of 10.4, but it's also true that AppleShare discovery doesn't work from 10.3 onward, so Mr Downtown should have been connecting via IP address already.

As I said, TCP/IP filesharing should have been enabled on the OS 9 Mac. But you're correct that I should have specified that he connect using the IP address and the Connect to Server option from the Go menu in the Finder.
