Can Tiger network with OS 9.1?

Mr Downtown, glad to have helped ... and I am pretty sure that the problem did start with Tiger -- Panther doesn't have a problem connecting to OS8/OS9 machines (see macintouch link). Dunno why Apple did this... it's a real pain... I've found that even turning on the TCP/IP option still doesn't allow me to connect via the Finder without specifying the IP.
