I have one of the original iMac 233 Rev A's. It doesn't like to boot to CD either. I've tried numorous times, but I think that the problem is with the USB keyboard. I don't think the driver loads until after the OS starts booting from the HD, at least that is how it has been ever since I put OS X on it. I could get it to boot to CD in OS 9 or Yellow Dog Linux. That old boy is at the end of his rope, but he's served me well and still runs like a champ. I upgraded the CPU to a 400 G4 and it has 512 mb RAM and a 120 GB hard drive, but the boot partition can only be 8 GB and it will only recognized 80 GB on the rest of the drive so...When I was upgrading the CPU I got it down to about 7 minutes to take it apart fix the connections and put it back together again. Inevitably, something popped out or didn't line up correctly during the reassembly. Cracking that back pannel off is scary the first few times. I thought that I'd broken something for sure.
