Some thoughts on the iPod and Labor in China
#5
Thanks Pron for the news.

I have gone on at length here before about the BCTC comany in Am Samoa. They basically were a VERY large sweatshop for Wal-Mart so they could still use the MADE IN THE USA on their garments.

The entire workforce was young Chinese women 16-25 years old without any official documentation. In fact no one even knew they were there until I made emntion of it at the newspaper I worked for and just happen to have photos of the women being escorted off of the 747 with no markings at the airport.

We ran a story questioning who these workers were and then all of a sudden they had them lined up at the courts building going through immigration - 6 months after they had arrived on island.

A few years ago some of the workers were beaten, losing an eye, and other permanent maiming, one to death and one Chinese official who happened to be on island at the time was tried and went to jail in Hawaii but the locals involved were not tried.

It has since been closed down by the feds.
