you know, that's ridiculous. In this day and age, with computers what they are, and with the DRM built into iTunes and the ITMS, there's no reason that they couldn't just let you re-download the piece again. Any piece that you've bought. After all, it's playable only on a computer YOU'VE authorized.
As an example of this, they have the Apple Store. My account there lists, under "Downloadable Software Purchases" the MPEG-2 playback plugin. I bought it 12/17/2004. And guess what? I can download it AGAIN. As often as I like.
This is not a stretch, and frankly is inexcusable for the ITMS not to offer this. This position of Apple's is not defensible.
