Cult flicks, like the Dude, abide
Each year there are dozens of movies that disappear from theaters nearly as quickly as they arrive. Of those, only a lucky few gain new life at midnight screenings and on video as cult films.
Joel and Ethan Coen, the duo behind the Oscar best picture "No Country for Old Men," experienced a similar arc with their 1998 film "The Big Lebowski." The movie, made on a $15 million budget, grossed only $17 million at the box office, but generated interest upon its DVD release.
