[quote billb]Wouldn't surprise me if they were short on drivers, business deliveries would have priority over home delivery.
As Paul F indicated, FedEx Ground and FedEx (Air) are two different businesses run under the umbrella of a single parent company. FedEx Ground was once RPS, a minor player in the package shipping industry, before it was acquired by FedEx in the late '90s in a move to outright buy ground shipping capabilities instead of developing them from the ground up -- all in the name of enabling them to open another front in the ongoing war against UPS.
FedEx Ground employs independent contractors as drivers: http://www.braunconsulting.com/bcg/newsl...20041.html. As a result, FedEx Ground drivers may not have as much of a vested interest in maintaining a high level of respect for the brand as they would if they were employees of the company.
