The other 8.9M Is the opt in spyware they install into your os because you opted to upgrade. It would be illegal for apple to ship the os with spyware in it but if they con you into downloading and install it yourself, like any other trojan software its all your fault. Thats what the software industry learned from the government and MS.
But then again there is no 'safe' or 'secure' way to use a computer that has any outside connections at all.
