[quote mrbigstuff]paper bills have something like 1/5th of the lifespan of dollar bills, so it makes sense for circulation purposes.
Not in real life...just on paper. Ha ha! Seriously, dollar coins are stupid. I hate all change, but image if there were no paper $1 bills and you get 4 $1 coins back as change to slug in you pocket. Wonderful.
Honestly, I think we are edging more and more towards a cashless society. The parking meters here take credit cards. In Vegas the slots don't give you back quarters, but rather a paper voucher. I rarely keep more than $5 in my wallet.
As for the Prez $s, they aren't collectors items (An item only becomes a "collector's item" after your mom or spouse throws it out) ;-) Seriously, if something is geared a "collectible" it usually isn't. There will be millions of each prez coin made, and companies like the Franklin Mint will horde them so they can colorize them and pawn them off to grandparents as gifts to their grandchildren. Good ploy by Congress to get an interest free loan though.
