jardster, I can only guess they're referring to DVDs that are ripped and stored as disc images. You'll need lots and lots (and lots) of HD space for that, but then again you'd avoid all of the video and audio format conversion choices, (in)compatibilities and consternation that are inevitably headed your way once you begin the journey.
