open box floor model iPod HiFi $262 good deal?
#7
I stand by my statement.

As do I, regarding mine.

...but I say it's overpriced.

As did I.

But what you said was "...The hifi is all marketing hype..." and I disagreed, calling it BS, and the opinion that it's not worth "half the price". I assume you meant half the MSRP, not $131.

The Hi-Fi doesn't sound great- it lacks a good high-end. Even after years of small arms fire, I can still hear far better than it's 16KHz top end.

Still, it's got a lot to offer. The bass is far more solid and accurate than any of the other one-piece solutions. No rattling or buzzing when you crank it up. Very clean sound, warm alá the Tivoli products. You'd have to look at *some* of the 2.1 add-ons for better quality bass.

It's portable. Yes, it's heavier than some units, but that's part of the reason for the good sounding bass (and no rattling/buzzing). But put in some batteries and it's free standing just about anywhere.

It will charge an Dock Connector iPod. Not all units do that.

Now for the money, the Audio Engine 5 powered speakers are a much better sounding, far better (but not as loud) as the Pro Media line. But those are a different animal.

If the Hi-Fi has little or no value to you, I understand. But without context your "marketing hype" comment is at best, misleading.

The only things that CUSA deal is missing is the cable (no wall warts needed) and the iPod adapters. Get the price down a little more and if the Hi-Fi is in good shape otherwise, somebody could be very happy with that purchase.
